The Thompson and Fraser Confluence

The Thompson and Fraser rivers meet near Lytton — the geographic centre of Nlaka'pamux territory.

James Teit describes the Nlaka'pamux as living on the Fraser and Thompson rivers, above and below the junction of the two streams. The Thompson River language was spoken in the area around this confluence.

The Thompson flows from the east through the dry interior benchlands and joins the Fraser as it cuts south through the canyon. The traditions collected by Teit place the Coyote people, the Spider, and the sacred stone within the territory defined by these rivers.
