Intergenerational Learning

Huckpestes — the Nlaka'pamux concept of developing wisdom through experience.

A 2011 dissertation by a Pukaist descendant describes a concept called huckpestes: developing wisdom through intergenerational learning, storytelling, and reflection. It describes how knowledge is passed between elders and youth.

The same work describes family-oriented teaching styles and methods in Nlakapmuxcin that are documented in the dissertation. These teaching practices are grounded in family relationships and daily life, not in formal institutions.
