Coyote and the Salmon

In the traditions, Coyote introduced salmon to the Thompson River.

James Teit's 1898 collection records that Coyote introduced salmon to the Thompson River. In one account, Coyote took the salmon up past Lillooet, then turned back and conducted them up the Thompson River.

Salmon were a primary food source for the Nlaka'pamux. Teit describes the people as primarily hunters and fishermen, with venison and salmon as main foods.
